Christmas is almost here, and it’s great to see everyone’s spirits are joyful! Homes are decorated, and Christmas lights abound! This joyful time of the year is much needed after we all experienced the tragedy of Hurricane Harvey in some way. These past few months have been no exception to what is always the busiest time of the year at Star of Hope!
In the midst of all the changes we all have undergone, I have noticed this year a profound sense of peace among our residents in the midst of their bout with homelessness. Our Women and Family Development Center at Star of Hope’s Cornerstone Community℠ serves homeless women and families in crisis in their lives … the sudden loss of a job, escape from domestic violence, eviction from their homes … very difficult situations that can bring out the worst in people facing a holiday in such despair. But at last nights Tree Lighting Ceremony, we experienced a joyful, peaceful time together, as the children enacted the birth of Jesus, and we sang “Joy to the World!”
Last night, the room was filled with hundreds of people of all ages, different backgrounds and life experiences. Most of them did not know the person sitting next to them or what had brought that person to Star of Hope. And even though you could still hear a few cries of babies and children in the background, everyone’s attention was drawn to the message of the birth of a Savior … OUR Savior, Jesus, as we worshiped and sang together. Christ was truly at the center of the evening!
It has also been a peaceful and joyful time at our Men’s Development Center. And your support is what provides this place of refuge for the hungry, the weary, and the lost. You are providing their home for Christmas this year, and we thank you for helping make Christ the center of the season for them all! Merry Christmas!

Dear Hank Rush
Merry Christmas to you so much!
I’m taking this advantaged Holiday to unite with you and celebrate together this unforgettable Day with all the poor and needy of the world. Being a young organization working with very limited means and financial insufficiency, I can not join you physically but in union of prayers.
May the Lord bless your work and fill you with success!
Amen!
