Children and Youth Ministry
Program Summary:
The Children and Youth Ministry (CYM) offers Christ-centered programming for children and youth between the ages of six weeks and seventeen years old. The program includes the Early Childhood Ministry, for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 4 years, and the Children and Youth Ministry, for children and teens between the ages of 5 years and 17 years). Through a State Licensed Child Development Center, the CYM strives to meet the spiritual, physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs of the children, youth, and their families, by utilizing Biblical truths and Biblical foundations necessary to live fruitful lives according to God’s will. The services provided include daily instruction through Bible-based curriculum, Bible studies, developmental instruction and assessment, homework assistance and tutorials, life skills, college preparation, field trips, weekly dance and movement, music, art, cooking, and annual camping trips during the summer.
Program Requirements:
- Every child and teen residing at the WFDC must be enrolled in the Children and Youth Ministry program within the first 48 hours of residency.
- Once enrolled the children and youth are welcomed to attend the programs and utilize the services for the entire length of stay at the WFDC.
Services Provided for the

- Daily Bible studies
- Daily age-appropriate instruction utilizing Biblical based curriculum
- Daily age-appropriate instruction, utilizing a developmental curriculum for preschool-age children
- Daily age-appropriate homework assistance and tutorials
- Daily lunch, as well as morning, afternoon, and evening snacks provided during classrooms time
- Daily indoor and outdoor activities
- Daily assistance and support for school related issues, as well as transportation related issues for all HISD schools and surrounding areas, and charter and private schools
- College Preparation Seminars
- Weekly art classes
- Weekly dance and movement classes
- Weekly music classes
- Weekly cooking classes
- Girl Scouts program
- Monthly educational and recreational field trips during the summer months
- Quarterly Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Quarterly Family Engagement activities
- Quarterly developmental assessments on preschool-age children
- Annual four-day trips to summer camp
- Access to the department’s Toy Store upon enrollment into the program
- Access to METRO money cards for school related issues
- Backs packs, school uniforms, and school supplies provided for all school-age children and teens
