This holiday season, Star of Hope Mission’s Extended Services program is thrilled to announce the return of our beloved Christmas Adopt-a-Family initiative. As we continue our mission to offer hope, support, and resources to homeless, previously homeless, and at-risk households throughout Houston and its surrounding areas, we cordially invite Sponsors to join us in bringing glad tidings to those affected by economic hardships.
Anticipating a significant demand for assistance during this festive season, we are reaching out to generous sponsors like you who can make a difference in the lives of the following individuals and families:
Homeless Families: Collaborating closely with local schools, we identify homeless families and unaccompanied youth/minors. In 2019, we extended our program to include this often-overlooked population. These families are currently residing in temporary arrangements, such as doubled-up living situations with family or friends, or in dwellings that are unsuitable for habitation.
Former Star of Hope Program Families: The heartwarming history of Glad Tidings is intertwined with our program graduates. Back in 1993, our Sponsors began “adopting” families who transitioned out of our shelters, embarking on the journey to rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness. This tradition endures to this day, with most families being single-parent (single moms) households, raising children of varying ages.
Outreach families: Several years ago, we expanded the Glad Tidings registration to encompass at-risk families who meet specific criteria. These families include single parents with children, grandmothers raising their grandchildren, single dads with children, and two-parent families struggling in today’s challenging economic landscape. This group constitutes the largest number of Recipient Families, particularly given the challenges of the past year following the Covid-19 pandemic. (Please note that these families undergo a thorough screening process to assess eligibility and need).

While we understand that Christmas is more than just exchanging presents, the act of giving and receiving gifts is undeniably an essential aspect of this cherished season. Receiving a gift signifies that someone cares, someone loves, and someone has taken the time to make a difference. While toys and fun items are indeed wonderful, clothing, household essentials, and personal care items are equally invaluable.
As a Sponsor, you will have the unique opportunity to bestow the gift of Glad Tidings! Our Adopt-a-Family Christmas program allows you to connect with a family, offer words of encouragement, and shine the light of Christ into the lives of those in need. Our Sponsors personally deliver Christmas gifts to the families they have chosen to support.
