As children head back to school they enter the classroom with new shoes, school supplies, and uniforms. This is common for the first day of school and is the foundation to having a successful beginning. Unfortunately, there are some parents who cannot afford to provide their children with these basic necessities … especially homeless families.
At the Star of Hope, our children were blessed to have Trees of Hope host their annual Back-To-Scool event, providing them with brand new shoes and a backpack filled with school supplies and uniforms! Their faces were full of excitement and joy knowing they would be ready for their first day of school. After one of the children received his shoes he ran to tell a Star of Hope staff member, “I love them! These are just like everybody else’s shoes!” How wonderful is that! Homeless children have a hard time attending school because they are worried about fitting in with their classmates. They don’t want their friends knowing they are homeless. These new shoes and school supplies give them confidence and a better chance at success!
