Ways To Help The Homeless

Welcome to We Care Houston! There are so many ways you can help the homeless men, women and children of Houston.

• Donate financially to offer hope through life changing ministries.
• Invest your time, talents or professional expertise as a volunteer.
• Organize a collection drive for needed items through your office, school, organization, church or neighborhood.

Another way is to prepare We Care Houston Packages that meet immediate, daily needs while offering the recipient shelter and hope.  Several suggested package lists for both homeless on the streets and those already in Star of Hope programs are provided below.

We Care Houston Packages

Care Packages: For Adults Living at Star of Hope

Consider including any and all of these items:

• Toothbrush, Toothpaste
• Shampoo, Conditioner
• Deodorant
• Disposable Razor
• Shaving Cream
• Skin Lotion
• Comb
• Hairbrush, Hair Gel
• Washcloth
• Hard Candies
• Wet Wipes
• Kleenex
• Socks
• Bar of Soap
• Prayer card or card sending good wishes and blessings

 

Care Packages: To Be Distributed To People On The Street

Consider including any and all of the above items, but may also include:

• Small Box of Raisins
• Band-Aids
• Toothpaste and Toothbrush
• Sugarless Gum
• Bottle of Water
• Small Tin of Canned Meat
• Plastic Fork or Spoon
• Napkin
• Cheese & Crackers Snack
• Prayer card or any card sending good wishes and blessings
• Information about Star of Hope and its facilities (download directions) 
• “Please let someone know you’re okay” on a stamped postcard with a ballpoint pen

Care Packages: For Children Living at Star of Hope (Ages 5-17)

Consider including any and all of these items:

• Deodorant (for teens)
• Skin Lotion
• Comb
• Hairbrush, Hair Gel, Hairspray
• Disposable Razor (for older teens)
• Shaving Cream
• Washcloth
• Hard Candies
• Wet Wipes
• Kleenex
• Socks
• Bar of Soap
• Flip Flops
• Stickers (age appropriate)
• Lip Balm
• Hair Bands for Long Hair & Ponytails
• Fingernail Polish for Girls
• Prayer card or card sending good wishes and blessings
• Anything else you can imagine these kids may want and need

• Baby Shampoo
• Baby Wipes
• Diapers
• Pull-ups
• Burp Pads
• Socks
• Toddler Underwear
• Binkies (pacifiers)
