Guest Blog, written by the Vice President of Programs, Dr. Michelle Alexander. It’s heartbreaking to know that our community is grappling not only with a housing crisis but also with widespread food insecurity. The Houston Food Bank reports that 1 in 5 people in their service area—covering 18 counties—struggles to access enough food. As a licensed clinical social worker and board-approved supervisor in Texas, I have witnessed the challenges that individuals and families face in securing adequate nourishment for over two decades. For more than 100 years, Star of Hope has been a beacon of hope, providing meals to those in need. Last year, they served an astounding 473,320 meals through their residential programs, helping to ease the burden on countless families. I invite you to join Star of Hope in their vital mission to feed the most vulnerable members of our community. Together, we can make a genuine difference. Additionally, the following agencies and community partners are here to support those experiencing food insecurity in our area: Houston Food Bank, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Local churches, and NAMI. Let’s come together to support our neighbors in need.
