The Resident Services Ministry Department

The Resident Services Ministry Department is responsible for creating and maintaining a Christ-centered ministry environment while meeting the most basic needs of the homeless.  The physical needs of food, shelter and clothing along with the much deeper need for a Savior are addressed with all Residents of the WFDC.  It is the goal of the RSM department to be a model of Christ – meet those in need where they are; touch them; serve them; and, do not allow them to be unchanged by the experience.  RSM staff oversee the daily operations of the WFDC and immediately respond to crisis situations from a Biblical perspective.  RSM staff hold Residents accountable to all WFDC Policies and Procedures with a balance of Truth and Grace. Volunteer and Intern opportunities are available through the RSM Department. 

Betty’s Boutique

Betty’s Boutique provides for a wide range of clothing needs for our WFDC Residents.  Everything from needed essentials to outfits appropriate for job interviews and a professional workplace environment can be found at Betty’s Boutique.  Residents receive mentoring from RSM staff on putting together stylish, attractive and appropriate outfits for all their clothing needs. Volunteer Opportunities Available

Building Monitor

The RSM Building Monitor is responsible for creating and maintaining a Christ-centered ministry environment within their assigned Residential Building. BM’s oversee the cleanliness of their buildings by conducting daily room checks and supervising participants completing their Work Therapy assignments. BM’s provide Residents access to laundry facilities, exercise rooms and assure adherence to all policies and procedures. BM’s provide crisis intervention and support to Residents using Biblical principles to minister to their needs. BM’s facilitate conflict resolution between residents and provide mediation. Immediate and thorough communication is essential between BM’s, management and the Resident’s case manager.

Central Station

A variety of services are available to WFDC Residents at Central Station.  Over-the-counter meds, bus directions, mail pick-up, personal needs supplies, copies, faxes, sack lunches, and reserved meals may all be obtained at Central Station. RSM staff at Central Station also assist with new Residents moving in as well as conducting after-hour intakes for individuals in crisis. Volunteer Opportunities Available

Clinic

At the WFDC the Harris Health System maintains an on-site clinic Mon.-Fri., 8am-3pm. Services provided by the Harris Health Clinic include; Medical care by a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, R.N. case management, Gold Card eligibility, TB skin tests, Immunizations for adults and children, Mental Health Services and Health Education. Vision care and Dental care are also services offered by the WFDC. Residents are served on a first-come-first served basis.

Reception

The RSM Receptionist at the Visitor’s Center greets all volunteers, donors and visitors while ensuring that only authorized persons enter the facility.  The Receptionist receives deliveries, processes outgoing and incoming mail and other shipments and may assist with donations as needed.  The Receptionist also responds to emails and other customer service inquires in a timely manner.

Transportation

The RSM department provides transportation for qualified residents needing transportation to medical appointments, court appearances, mental health evaluations, etc. All transportation requests must be made through the Resident’s case manager. 

Work Therapy

The Work Therapy program at the WFDC is focused on growing and developing a Biblically-based work ethic within each Resident. The number of Work Therapy hours required is determined by the program in which an individual is enrolled. Work Therapy hours may be assigned in the clothing boutique, in housekeeping, and in the food services department. Work Therapy is mandatory and all Residents are expected to participate.
