Each day God gives us an opportunity to make the right decision. Through life’s ups and downs we are called to stand on His word to renew our strength, but sometimes people find it difficult to be after God’s own heart, when their own heart needs restoration. A resident by the name of Joshua gave up on life and thought ending his own would solve his problems. That soon changed when he heard the voice of God speak to him and revive his heart … this is his story:

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I spent over 20 years addicted to both drugs and alcohol. This all caught up to me when I almost died of a heroin overdose. I was told that after several minutes of trying to revive me, the paramedics decided to try for sixty more seconds. I was revived! That is how close I was to facing whatever eternity that was waiting for me.

Miraculously, I was revived. I thought at this point that I had truly reached rock bottom, but I was wrong. I started to live even more recklessly and eventually, I reached true rock bottom. In that moment I decided to commit suicide. Right before I went through with my decision, I heard a voice that I had never heard before … it told me to stop and call my mother. I did and after a long tear-filled conversation, I decided that Star of Hope was what I needed.

After I entered the Spiritual Recovery Program, it took some time and the proper medication to get myself into a place where I could grow. I was given another chance to change my life and God saved me from myself. I must admit that I have had my share of ups and downs on this road I am traveling, but through all the twists and turns, by the grace of God I have made it this far. I would like to thank the staff here for their teaching, support, and understanding.

What a testament to God’s grace! Joshua’s physical revival led him to be restored, not only in life but in the Lord. He received a second chance. And, with your help, Joshua has grown in his walk with Christ! We are thankful for your support. Residents like Joshua have an opportunity to be revived at Star of Hope and find new life in Christ. Thank you!
